At the age of 8, it probably seemed to Norbert's parents, Bert & Ciony Caoili, that his future in music was as non-existent as his interest in the piano lessons they were trying to get him to attend.  Two months later, Norbert quit the lessons.  Little did they know, it would be just as much a blessing as it was a curse.  Over the next ten years, Norb spent his time concentrating on school and athletics, while keeping music and his newest interest, video, a spare-time hobby.  Norb stayed busy playing football, basketball, baseball and track. After hittin' the showers and hittin' the books, he'd spend his time either making movies with his neighborhood buddies or playing around on the organ.  He wouldn't practice notes or read music, but instead imitate his favorite songs on the radio, slowly figuring out the music, one note at a time.  Little did he know, both learning the crucial skill of playing by ear and making home movies would have such an impact on his life.

In 1987, Norb graduated Valedictorian from Kent-Meridian High School with several scholarships and awards and went on to the University of Washington to study engineering.  At least, so he thought at that time.  While pondering his career as a future engineer, Norb discovered his first keyboard, and with it, his true love for music and singing.  He began re-arranging and singing such songs as "La Bamba", "Dream" and "Oh, Sheila."  Norb met up with several colleagues and formed their first band, "Mirage."  Norb was lead male vocalist and keyboardist for Mirage, playing for various parties, weddings and dances until 1989 when Norb left the group.

While 1989 saw the end of Mirage, it saw the beginning of Norb's songwriting career. In February of 1989, Norb wrote a song called "Mystery Girl." "Mystery Girl" was a first in many ways as it married his love for music and love for video together under one project.  Shortly after writing the song, Norb acted in and produced the "Mystery Girl" music video and submitted it to King 5 Evening Magazine's Home Video Contest.  It became a top 5 finalist and was aired on Channel 5. Though he did not win the overall competition, it was a victorious beginning to his music and video career.

After leaving Mirage, Norb played with several bands ("Essence", "Emerald Reign", and "4- Play") while continuing his songwriting.  Norb also joined up with friend, Dino Moore, and began co-writing and performing numerous songs.

By this time, Norb came to realize that engineering was not in the cards and decided to switch gears back to his other love (video) and decided to pursue a degree in communications.  In 1992, Norb graduated from the University of Washington with a double major in Broadcast Communications and Political Science.  He established Bert & Bert Video Productions with his longtime childhood friend, Rob Portmann.  With no more than 2 VHS camcorders and a consumer editing deck, they spent the next four years shooting weddings and occasional corporate videos to build their business while finding enough spare time to air their cable access comedy show, "Bert & Bert Theatre."

In 1996 Norb & Rob went their separate ways with the business and, in April of that year, Norb and Mike Lorrain joined forces to form Quantum Productions, Inc.  Norb had met Mike 2 years earlier working at the University of Washington's video production facility.  Their goal: to provide high quality visual and sound services for corporate and commercial clients.

Norb moved into a new area of performance when, on a whim, he joined Deredex's Asian Model Look Search 1992 and won first place.  His winning streak continued into the next year when he won the Mr. Asia Washington 1993 title.  That win brought him to Los Angeles to compete in the national competition, the Mr. Asia Pacific International competition.  It was at this competition that Norb truly shined, as he was able to do something he had not been able to do at the previous two contests... to sing.  He sang an original ballad entitled "Please Be Mine" which brought an overwhelming response from the audience, and won him the first prize award in the talent competition.  Norb captured the title Mr. Asia Pacific International 1994 and a new exposure to the modeling industry.

Norb and Dino, under the duo name "MBD: Music By Dezign", recently finished recording their second album, made up of R&B dance cuts and romantic love ballads.  Their first album, "Share My World" was released in the Philippines in 1997 and had a hit single with the song "I'll Be Yours."  They continue to perform and promote their album, which is available on the internet.

In June 2002, Norb married the love of his life, Jin Luceno. Jin is a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines.

Between singing, composing, video producing and modeling, Norb has experienced many facets of the entertainment industry.  He feels these experiences have only made his life that much richer.  "I think all these different aspects of the entertainment industry all integrate together in one way or another, and being involved in them has helped make me a better individual overall."
